On the Pacific coast of southern Chile (latitude: 51 degrees, 25 minutes south) the climate is intense. Much like the Queen Charlotte Islands, but with fiercer wind, it rains three meters a year and in winter the ocean sometimes freezes. The extreme climate encourages people to not go there without good reason, and allowed me to spend a year in complete solitude without seeing people or boats or airplanes.
